Who Is Dawn?

I am not very photogenic, so I won't litter my site with photos of myself.  Most of the ones here of me are on horseback.  There's a reason for this- I spend a lot of time riding.  I started with real horses in 1997 when I was 31 years old, and have been progressing with them ever since.  I am now breeding and training Icelandic horses on my modest farm.

Of course, I professionally restore model horses also, which is most likely why you are reading this site.  It is, after all, modelhorserepair.com!  I was a professional video editor for approximately 10 years.  I have edited award-winning videos for the State of Washington and have the trophies to prove it.  Now I mostly train horses and work occasionally at the local Boys and Girls Club.  Good thing husband Ian has a full time well-paying job with benefits!

See our house I live with my husband, 2 cats (soon to be 3), 2 dogs, and a varying number of Icelandic horses in a log home on 7 acres in Grapeview, Washington. The logs came from trees cut from the property. It was built in approximately 1984. We moved in summer 1996.  To see our lovely home, click on the house graphic to the left. This is an old picture- probably one of the advertising photos from when we bought the place.  We have since redone the deck.

Ian and I have chosen not to have children, but we have animals instead.  You can read all about them below.

The felines:  (until recently we had four.  We finally lost my 19 year old Fizzbin to essentially old age.  A month later, our beloved Arthur disappeared, likely the victim of coyotes.  He is the first cat in the nine years we've lived here to disappear in such a way.  We have a kitten coming soon, as two cats just seems too few.)

Mocha
Mocha: Very much "the Queen." Born approximately 1994. Mixed breed, but vocal in true Siamese tradition. Unintentionally came with the house, but we were happy to have her. Likes to claw wood (fun in a log home) and hang from the pullout breadboard at feeding time.
Buzzy
Shani (aka "Nigh"): After losing two beloved cats to predators, we adopted Shani from PAWS in 2007. At the time Kali disappeared, there were no kittens to be had so we instead ended up with a 3 year old long hair Siamese mix with what I describe as "tabby points."  She is so lovely that we call her "the Disney Princess."

Dogs just come with the territory.

Sandy Sandy: Hyperactive but exuberantly friendly, this spayed female was born approximately 1992. We've had her since March of 1995. Her color is brindle, and we guess she is Staffordshire Terrior crossed probably with Australian Shepherd. We have a small pond on the property, and she LOVES to swim! (Maybe she's part lab…?)
Sandy Danny: We adopted Danny in October of 2000, not long after we lost our other older dog Janie.    He was 7 months old at the time, so still very much a puppy. We got him to help keep Sandy active, and he sure does that!  She's an alpha, he's an Omega, so she feels compelled to keep him in line.  He is active and loves to bait her, then dodges out of the way.  We call him "the Basenji Creature," as he does have many Basenji characteristics, but we really don't know what breeds are in his make-up.  Definitely a herding dog!

I'd waited all my life to own horses.

I've created a whole page dedicated to my farm, Lone Cedar Icelandics.  Each of my Icelandic horses is pictured and described on that page.  You can link there by clicking here:  My Horses
